Hybrid Battery Solar and Off Grid

Hybrid Battery Solar and Off Grid

Hybrid and Battery Solar is a specialised field.  With growing interest home batteries and the advancement in battery technology, a lot of solar businesses are dipping their toes into the water.  However, solar battery systems are not as simple as grid connected systems, and without a good understanding of the battery technologies, inverter types and limitations and site specific requirements, solar installers and retailers, as well as customers, can find themselves in great difficulties.

For example:

Did you know that there are many battery technologies available and each one has a different performance.

We all know about lithium batteries, but did you know that there are many different types of lithium batteries and that not all of them are as safe as others?  Lithium Cobalt Oxide, Lithium Manganese Oxide, Lithium Iron Phosphate, Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide, Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminium Oxide, and Lithium Titanate all play in the Lithium battery field, yet they all have different characteristics.  Then there are acid based batteries – mostly Gel batteries, Lead Acid, and Lead Carbon batteries – Salt batteries of various kinds and Flow batteries, all competing in the market and all have different depth-of-discharge, cycle life, charge and discharge rates, voltages and operating parameters, .

If you choose the wrong battery for your application, you will have less than optimum results.

Did you know that not all batteries should operate in all places?

Environmental factors play a part in your choice of battery.  There is no such thing as a one size fits all with solar batteries.

Did you know that there is a difference between AC batteries and DC batteries, and that not all solar inverters can have batteries added?

AC batteries can be added to almost any inverter if you also add a battery charge controller (for an extra cost), however they do not give the benefit of DC batteries.  DC batteries can only be added to hybrid inverters and both hybrid inverters and dc batteries provide greater benefit to you than the AC battery options.

Did you know that not every solar installer can install batteries?

Because of the complication of batteries, installers require a specific license to install them.

At Ekonomix, we understand solar and batteries and have been in the solar battery market for years.  Our experience and commitment to finding the right solution for you makes us the right choice when considering solar and batteries.
